suction records is thrilled and honoured to announce the reissue of d arcangelo s self-titled debut ep for rephlex, the legendary uk label run by aphex twin and grant wilson-claridge from 1991-2013. d arcangelo are the italian duo of brothers fabrizio and marco d arcangelo, active in the underground electronic scene under various aliases since the early 90s, and still going strong today. released in 1996, their rephlex debut -d arcangelo- was one of the first releases to make a firm connection between contemporary idm/electronix and the sound of 80s synth pop. the 3 tracks on side a are ripping, industrial-strength electronix, as fierce, crunchy and menacing anything aphex twin himself had released at the time. in sharp contrast, side b s 3 tracks are playful, clean and melodic instrumental synthpop, with clear synthetic references to bands like depeche mode and omd. it was a sound that was certainly not in fashion at the time, and helped the ep stand out in 1996, for that very reason.

east wall was an italian electronic dark wave band started by fabrizio chiari (ex keyboardist of kirlian camera) and wilma notari in 1982. “silence” was self released by the band in 1991.
we decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double lp cut louder at 45 rpm. we have also included an unreleased extended version of “ice of fire” and the bonus track “intro”, found on the dat tapes fabrizio chiari sent us. all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. it is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by andrea gambetta. each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by intergalactic gary, who’s despair mix turned us onto to this album all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of a boy by pushe 27. each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by flemming dalum.

fabrizio martina, the man behind jolly mare, is a champion turntablist, with a master degree in mechanical engineering and a phd in vibration dynamics under his belt. he s currently a full time producer and dj, taking part in festivals across europe from sonar to harvey s discotheque stage at bestival. a graduate of red bull music academy in new york, he has opened acts from masters at work to roy ayers, worked with the likes of soul clap and thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of pitchfork, mixmag and okayplayer with his dream-like brand of cosmic disco and house.
